Guard: what it sees and what it doesn't

In short

• Guard watches your product page: whether keyplace loads, whether add to cart works and whether the page has errors.

• Guard is included in every plan, including Start, and works the same on each.

• When something breaks, keyplace emails you an alert with a hint on what to check.

• The hint is a clue, not a confirmed cause.

• Guard helps you catch problems, but it's not a guarantee.

What Guard checks

On your product page, Guard checks three things:

• keyplace loads. Guard spots when keyplace stops loading on the page.

• Add to cart works. Guard spots when add to cart fails on the product page.

• No page errors. Guard spots errors on the product page from your theme scripts and app extensions.

An alert can include a hint from the shopper's browser, like a theme script error. Treat it as a clue, not a confirmed cause.

Guard in your report

Outside the product page, Guard also tracks product changes in Shopify. For example, it notes a big price change or a product that's sold out in every variant. You see these in your report.

What Guard doesn't see

Guard works within narrow limits. It doesn't see:

• Shopper data. Guard doesn't read orders or customer data. We keep event counts and short error messages. We remove the personal data we detect from them.

• Your checkout from the inside. Guard doesn't run automated tests in your cart or checkout, and it doesn't place orders.

• Pages other than the product page. Guard watches only your product page.

What happens when something breaks

1. keyplace spots the problem. Guard sees when keyplace stops loading, add to cart fails or the page throws errors.

2. keyplace emails you an alert. The email says what stopped working.

3. keyplace shows what to check. The alert can point to where to look first, like a theme script or an app that throws errors.

You decide on the fix. Guard doesn't change your theme, apps or checkout.

Common questions

Why don't I see an alert?

With low traffic, there are too few events for a reliable alert. That's why some signals show up only in your report.

Is Guard a guarantee?

No. Guard helps you catch problems, but it's not a guarantee. It watches only your product page and the signals we can see.

Where do I find Guard in the app?

You'll find Guard in two places: Home > Guard and Analytics > Product page Guard.
